CIAC LAUDS PRESIDENT AQUINO FOR NEW PASSENGER TERMINAL

Officials of the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) lauded on Monday President Benigno Aquino for finally approving the P15 billion world-class Passenger Terminal for Clark International Airport (CRK) during the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) board meeting in Malacañang Palace on September 4, 2015.

“We would like to express our gratitude to President Aquino for approving the Passenger Terminal project that will greatly help attract more airlines to operate at the Clark International Airport,” CIAC President and CEO Atty. Emigdio Tanjuatco III said in a statement.

Tanjuatco also expressed his thanks to Pampanga-First District Congressman Joseller Guiao who had been lobbying with the national government for the new Passenger Terminal at Clark Airport.

He also cited the support of NEDA Board Members, namely, Transportation and Communication Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, Secretary Rene Almendras, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, Environment Secretary Ramon Paje, Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo, Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balicasan, and DOTC Usec. Rene Limcaoco.

“This is a welcome development for the whole Clark community as well as for the entire country as we will have a new world class Passenger Terminal for the Clark airport,” Tanjuatco added.

The first phase of the project will see the development of a passenger terminal that can accommodate 3 million passengers annually.

Tanjuatco said that the first phase project is expected to be completed within two years, adding that bidding and construction is expected by 2016.

The second phase of the project also involves the expansion of the new Passenger Terminal that will further accommodate another 5 million annually.

“Overall, the Passenger Terminal will accommodate 8 million passengers annually,” he said.

The national government has allocated a total of P15 billion for the development of the Clark airport passenger terminal.

The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) had tapped the services of French firm Aeroports de Paris in 2014 to conduct a feasibility study as well as draw up the master plan for the new Passenger Terminal as well as other areas at the 2,367-hectare Civil Aviation Complex.

The current passenger capacity of the existing Passenger Terminal is at 4 million per year being utilized by budget airlines and full service airlines operating 24 hours a day.

The Clark airport is currently host to a number of air carriers such as Qatar Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air, CebGo, Tiger Air Singapore, Dragonair, Jin Air, and Air Asia Berhad.
