Korean air carrier- Jin Air will start their four times weekly Clark-Busan flights from July 27 to August 24, 2015 at Clark International Airport (CRK) in a bid to attract more Korean tourists to the country.
Officials of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Central Luzon led by President Jong Pil Choi welcomed the development saying it will greatly benefit the Korean population in the region.
Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) President and CEO Atty. Emigdio Tanjuatco III said that the new Clark-Busan route of Jin Air at the Clark airport will not only boost passenger traffic at the gateway but also support the marketing efforts of CIAC to promote the airport.
The Jin Air Clark-Busan service will arrive at 1 am and depart at 2 am four times a week. The Clark-Busan flights will commence on July 27 and will run until August 24, 2015. The flights will resume in November during the peak season.
“We are pleased to welcome the Clark-Busan flight and we also would like to express gratitude to the Jin Air management for expanding their operations at Clark International Airport. CIAC will continue its effort to bring in more flights at the Clark airport,” Tanjuatco said.
Earlier this year, Jin Air increased its Incheon, South Korea service at the Clark airport from four flights a week to daily.
“The Clark-Busan flight will further attract more Korean tourists to visit Clark as well as to utilize Clark airport for their flights,” Choi said.
Busan, or officially Busan Metropolitan City, is South Korea’s second largest city after Seoul with a population of approximately 3.6 million. Busan was the host city of the 2002 Asian Games and APEC 2005 Korea. It was also one of the host cities for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and is a center for international conventions in Korea.
Busan has Korea’s largest beach and longest river, and is home to the world’s largest department store, the Shinsegae Centum City.
Choi said there are an estimated 20,000 Koreans residing in Central Luzon and around 50,000 Korean nationals in the Northern Philippines that would benefit from Jin Air’s additional route at the Clark airport.
The Korean businessman hopes that the Korean carriers operating at the Clark airport will add more flights, especially during the months of November and February which is the peak season.
