CIAC Conducts CRK Full Scale Emergency Exercise 2016

The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) conducted on Wednesday (August 17, 2016) the CRK Full Scale Emergency Exercise in a bid to enhance the inter-operability of the Clark International Airport in disaster preparedness.

ClAC President and CEO Emigdio Tanjuatco III led the facilitation of CRK Full Scale Emergency at the Civil Aviation Complex.

A simple opening ceremonies was held at Domestic Building at the Clark International Airport Passenger Terminal.The ceremonies were also attended by some 200 participants from firefighters of Angeles City, Mabalacat City, including Medical Response Teams of Clark Development Corporation (CDC), Medical City, Philippine Air Force (PAF) Medical Team, CIAC Emergency Services and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and media as observers.

Nestor Deona, OIC Vice-President for Operations Management Group and Exercise Director said that the simulated drill aims to ensure the efficiency and responsiveness of the emergency response teams not only in Clark but also the responsiveness of our partner agencies in Angeles City, Mabalacat City and other government agencies.

Deona also said that the activity is a requirement of the Canada-based International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) whose functions regulates and monitor International Airports all over the world.

“CIAC had been conducting the Full Scale Emergency Exercise every two years as part of the ICAO requirement and most of all for an Aerodrome Certification wherein CIAC is working on” Deona added.

He said that the exercise was a success wherein the participants were responsive and on time during the mock exercise at the Civil Aviation Complex.

“I think everybody were responsive and they have shown their proficiency in disaster preparedness during a drill wherein a scenario of an aircraft crash landed at the runway of Clark Airport.”

Deona said that “Clark Airport is definitely ready for any eventuality that may occur.”

A mock exercise took place at the runway 02 area of the Clark Airport at exactly 1pm, a mock exercise commenced were a Boeing-737 aircraft from Macau with more than 100 passengers crashed landed at the runway 02 area. Rescuers from CIAC Emergency Services, medical teams of Angeles, Mabalacat, PAF immediately went to the area to attend medical assistance and rescue the victims. The victims were brought to nearby Hospitals.

Deona said that this kind of activity will provide an opportunity for CIAC to implement other measures to further imrpove the inter-operability of the airport when it comes to disaster.
